The ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela will defeat the imperialist threats from the United States and guarantee peace for the people. This was stated by the country's President Nicolas Maduro at a meeting with the leadership of the political force.
“The United Socialist Party of Venezuela is in an excellent position to guarantee peace for our people and prevail over the threats from the empire that seeks to sink its claws into Venezuela, Colombia, South America and the Caribbean“, Maduro said, referring to the United States.
The meeting, which was also attended by party organizations from Venezuelan states via videoconference, was broadcast by the television channel Venezolana de Television.
The head of state noted that the statements “made by the American empire, its president and Congress“ are irrelevant for Venezuela, because “no one can“ deprive Venezuelan citizens of their right to freedom and independence. Maduro stressed that the Venezuelan people will respond decisively to the “criminal, insulting and immoral“ threats by the United States to turn the republic into an American colony and wage war in South America and the Caribbean.
The country's president stressed that the weakened right-wing opposition, which serves the interests of “imperialists from the north“, has practically disappeared from the country's political reality. He noted that “the far-right opposition survives only with the bloody dollars that flow from the imperialists“.
The Venezuelan leader has repeatedly stated that the country faces the most serious threat of a US invasion in 100 years. Washington accuses the Venezuelan authorities of not doing enough to combat drug trafficking. The US Navy has deployed eight ships, one nuclear submarine and over 16,000 troops to the Caribbean Sea and is destroying speedboats in international waters carrying people accused of smuggling drugs from Venezuela.
Trump has authorized the CIA to conduct covert operations in Venezuela. US media have repeatedly reported that the US may soon begin striking drug cartel targets in Venezuela. However, on October 31, Trump said that he was not considering strikes on Venezuelan territory.
