In Britain, 80 MPs from the ruling Labour Party are ready to support a challenge to Keir Starmer's position as party leader and, respectively, prime minister of the country, the "Times" newspaper reported, quoted by BNR.

Members of the so-called "Tribune" group of Labour MPs claim that they have the nominations needed to launch a leadership race.

Concerns about Keir Starmer's leadership qualities have led a group of left-wing Labour MPs to make early preparations to support a potential contender, although they have not yet united around a candidate, the "Times" reports. There is speculation that Lucy Powell, the deputy leader of the Labour Party, Lisa Nandy, the culture minister, and Louise Hague, the former transport secretary, could offer a more left-wing alternative to Keir Starmer.

The group is made up of MPs from the party's so-called "soft left", which sits between the moderate-right faction and the left of the party, once represented by Jeremy Corbyn.

The group held its first meeting on Tuesday evening, with one of its leading members saying that Starmer "has shown he doesn't have the ability" to change his image as prime minister after going from crisis to crisis in his first 16 months in office.

Political observers believe that even if Starmer's position is not challenged in the near future, it will almost certainly happen after the local elections in May, which could be disastrous for Labour, based on current opinion polls.
