Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has tried to violate the rules of house arrest. The former leader was caught damaging the electronic tracking bracelet on his ankle with a soldering iron, G1 reported.
According to law enforcement, Bolsonaro confirmed to police that he tried to open the clasp with a soldering iron. The damaged device transmitted the corresponding signal to law enforcement. The device has been sent for analysis, and the former head of state remains in custody.
Bolsonaro was arrested earlier on Saturday. Police believe he may have planned an escape attempt. In September, the former leader was found guilty of conspiring to prevent current President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva from taking office in January 2023. He was sentenced to more than 27 years in prison and will soon begin serving his sentence.
