Poland detains Ukrainian for cooperation with Russia in preparation of sabotage - 1

The Polish prosecutor's office announced on Monday that a Ukrainian citizen has been arrested on suspicion of cooperating with Russian services in preparing sabotage against a railway line. This is a section of the Warsaw-Lublin route, which connects the Polish capital with the Ukrainian border and is of key importance for military supplies to Kiev, News.bg reports.

The authorities have already charged two more Ukrainians in absentia in connection with the planned explosion. The two - identified as Oleksandr K. and Yevgeny I. - fled to Belarus, from where Poland is demanding their extradition.

According to the prosecutor's office, the third suspect, Volodymyr B., transported one of the alleged perpetrators to the area of the planned sabotage in September 2025 to conduct an inspection and determine the location of the explosive device. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities searching for other individuals involved in ordering, preparing and carrying out the attack.

The case is particularly sensitive due to the fact that Ukrainian citizens acted in favor of Russia - a circumstance that Warsaw defines as a worrying signal of the activation of Russian influence networks and sabotage operations on EU territory.

In response to the incident, Poland closed the last Russian consulate in the country and deployed thousands of military personnel to protect critical infrastructure. Moscow denies involvement, accuses Warsaw of “Russophobia” and says it will limit the presence of Polish diplomats in Russia.
