The European Union is suffering from a polycrisis, its actions are determined by multi-layered and parallel crises that reinforce each other, Hungarian Minister for European Affairs János Boka told the European Affairs Committee of the Parliament in Budapest today, Hungarian news agency MTI reported, quoted by BTA.
“The EU security crisis is caused by the bloc’s flawed strategy regarding the Ukrainian-Russian war, by Ukraine itself and by the lack of a European security and defense policy“, Boka said.
He added that the economic crisis is evident in the areas of competitiveness and trade policy. Boka also pointed to the “budget crisis“, which is demonstrated by the “deadlocked negotiations for the next seven-year budget“.
“Furthermore, the EU's migration crisis continues“, the Hungarian minister added. Boka said that all this has led to a “crisis in politics and leadership“ and an imbalance between EU institutions.
Commenting on the letter from European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in support of Ukraine, Boka said that given the corruption scandal in Ukraine, the letter is tantamount to “political provocation“.
