The European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaia Kalas, has expressed concern about the first draft of the peace plan for Ukraine, published in the media. She noted that the document does not contain a single concession or obligation on the part of Russia, Ukrainskaya Pravda reported, Fokus reports.
Her comments were made after an extraordinary video conference of EU foreign ministers on November 26. Kalas stressed that the draft seen by the EU is not final, but it is worrying that Russia does not make any commitments.
“I think that in the long term we need to see what exactly Russia is obliged to do,“ she said. The diplomat suggested the initial step should be the fulfillment of the obligations assumed by Russia in previous international agreements.
“There are at least 20 such agreements in which they have agreed not to attack anyone. We could start with that. It is important that the focus remains on the one who is committing the aggression“, stressed Kaya Kalas.
She added that the draft peace plan published in the media mainly includes points advantageous to Russia, which raises questions about its effectiveness and fairness.
