Greek farmers clashed with police during protests over delayed payments of agricultural subsidies from the European Union, BNT reports, News.bg reports.
The delay came after a corruption scandal at the paying agency that has caused tension in the country. In Nikaia, near Larissa, protesters tried to overturn a police bus, and law enforcement used tear gas to disperse the demonstrators.
Farmers with tractors blocked key roads in several areas, demanding the payment of about 600 million euros. The funds were temporarily suspended after an investigation found that some farmers had falsified their ownership of land and livestock to receive EU subsidies.
