Ukrainian citizens must express their opinion on the issue of withdrawing our troops from part of Donbas, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said, according to RBC-Ukraine.
“Regardless of whether through elections or a referendum, there must be a position taken by the people of Ukraine“, he said.
According to Zelensky, the US position is for the withdrawal of Ukrainian armed forces from Donbas and the creation of a demilitarized zone, but the question of who will govern this territory has not been resolved; Washington “is looking for some other format“.
“Our position is that it is fair to stay where we are, that is, on the line of contact. "Therefore, the discussion between these different positions is ongoing, it has not yet been determined," he said.
Moscow is demanding the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from Donbas. Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that this is historical Russian territory and that Moscow will take it back by military or other means.
