Today, Greek farmers blocked the movement of vehicles over 12 tons at the border crossings “Kulata - Promahon“ and “Ilinden - Exohi“, reports the “Road Infrastructure“ Agency (API), reports News.bg.
This is already the 13th day of the farmers' protests, which began on November 30 due to the delay in the payment of agricultural subsidies, related to a corruption scandal in the Greek agricultural payment agency OPECEPE.
Yesterday, farmers rejected the government's invitation to negotiations, continuing to deploy tractors and trucks at blockades in various places in the country. This leads to difficulties on major highways and periodic blockages of border crossings.
The protesters are demanding over 600 million euros in delayed aid from the European Union and other payments.
According to the executive director of the Union of International Transport Operators, Yordan Arabadzhievo, the blockades are costing each transporter over 100 euros per truck per day.
