In case of a possible aggravation of the situation in the Taiwan Strait, Russia will support China in protecting its state unity and territorial integrity, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in an interview with TASS, dedicated to the conclusions of 2025, reported by BTA.
"As for a possible aggravation of the situation in the Taiwan Strait, the course of action in such situations is written in the Treaty with the People's Republic of China on Good-Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation of July 16, 2001, which is the basis for bilateral relations. One of the basic principles stipulated in this document is mutual support in matters of protecting state unity and territorial integrity," Lavrov noted.
Russia is against Taiwan's independence in any form and considers the island an indivisible part of China, Sergei Lavrov also said in an interview with TASS.
"Russia's principled position on the Taiwan issue is well known - it is unchanging and has been repeatedly confirmed at a high level. Moscow recognizes Taiwan as an indivisible part of China and is against the island's independence in any form," the Russian Foreign Minister pointed out.
In another highlight of the interview, he called on Japan to carefully consider what he called the "course towards militarization" it has taken.
