Romania and Europe need partnership with the United States, Romanian President Nikusor Dan said from Brussels, where he is participating in an extraordinary meeting of European heads of state and government. This is clear from information from the head of state's administration, BTA reported.
“The United States is an important strategic partner for Romania's security. Fortunately, at this (European) Council, this opinion was shared by many EU countries“, noted Nikusor Dan. However, he hastened to add that transatlantic relations have recently been going through difficult times, with tension and interruptions, but he believes there are enough reasons for them to continue.
In response to a question about the lack of a decision regarding Romania's invitation to join the Peace Council and comments that this is actually a refusal, Nikusor Dan stated:
“We will discuss all these things later, in more detail. Do you realize that this is not a simple issue, this is a statute that commits the Romanian state to an international issue“.
