Zhang Yuxia, vice chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC) and member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China (CPC), is suspected of handing over key technical data on Chinese nuclear weapons to the United States, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing its sources.
The charges against the general were announced at a briefing for the highest-ranking officers in the army. Zhang is also accused of accepting bribes, including for the promotion of an officer to the post of defense minister (referring to former defense minister Li Shangfu – RBC) and for promotions in the military procurement system, according to WSJ sources.
Other charges include abuse of power and “forming political cliques“. Journalists specified that these allegations are related to attempts to create networks of influence that undermine party unity.
