Twelve days after the serious train crash in southern Spain, a seriously injured woman died yesterday in hospital from her wounds, public radio and television and other Spanish media reported, quoted by DPA.

This brings the number of victims of one of the worst rail accidents in the country's history to 46.

Since the evening of January 18, doctors have been trying to save the life of the 42-year-old woman from La Palma del Condado, who was being treated in the intensive care unit of the "Reina Sofia" hospital in Cordoba.

Shortly before news of her death broke, authorities said that 17 of the more than 120 people initially injured in the crash were still in intensive care.

According to a preliminary assessment by the official investigation committee, the collision between the two high-speed trains was caused by a broken rail, DPA reported.
