Electricity prices in Kosovo are rising by 21%, Pristina is protesting - 1

A protest against an upcoming 21 percent increase in the price of electricity in Kosovo will be held in the Kosovo capital, Pristina, this Friday, February 6, Kosovo media reported.

The latest increase in the price of electricity in the country by 16.1 percent came into effect on May 1, 2025.

According to information from the Kosovo newspaper “Gazeta Express“ A few days ago, it was confirmed that the Kosovo electricity supply company KESCO had requested a 21 percent increase in electricity prices, with one of the arguments for this request being the increase in the minimum wage in Kosovo, first to 425 euros (from January 1, 2026), and then to 500 euros (from July 1, 2026). The decision on whether the price of electricity will increase is expected to be made in March and come into effect in April.

Kosovo citizens, quoted by the news agency “Economy Online“, said they would join the protest against the electricity price increase on Friday, as it is too much for them and comes soon after the last increase in electricity prices.

Some of them believe that the protest will not influence the decision to increase the price of electricity, as has happened in previous protests against higher electricity prices.

“So far there has been no result (from the protests) and this time I do not expect anything either (...) Increasing the price of electricity three times a year, this time by 21 percent from March 1, this is absurd“, citizen Bajram Kastrati told the agency.
