Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban called Ukraine “an enemy of Hungary“ during an “anti-war rally“ in the city of Szombathely, European Pravda
reports, reports Focus.
According to Orban, Kiev is constantly putting pressure on Brussels to limit Hungary's access to cheap Russian gas, which according to the PM leads to the risk of increasing utility costs for Hungarian families.
“Anyone who says this is an enemy of Hungary - so Ukraine is our enemy“, Orban said. He added that without reducing utility bills, the annual costs of Hungarian households could increase by about 1 million forints (approximately 2,600 euros).
The prime minister stressed that Ukraine, as a neighboring country, should cooperate with Hungary, but in his opinion it should not be allowed to join the European Union.
Hungary will launch legal proceedings to challenge the EU decree to phase out Russian gas imports by January 1, 2027. The plan was approved by member states on January 26 and is due to be implemented by the end of 2027.
