CNN: Washington slams Kiev for Novorossiysk attacks - they affected US interests - 1

Ukraine's ambassador to the United States, Olga Stefanyshyna, said at a briefing that she had received a demarche from the State Department after the attacks by Ukrainian armed forces on an oil facility in the Black Sea late last year, CNN reported.

“We heard that the Ukrainian attacks on Novorossiysk affected some US investments that were channeled through Kazakhstan. And we heard from the State Department that we should refrain from attacking US interests“, she said.

Stefanyshyna added that Kiev “has taken that into account“. According to her, the State Department note notes that the United States does not currently have the same economic interests in Ukraine as in Kazakhstan.

At the end of November last year, the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) marine terminal near Novorossiysk was attacked by drones. The attack damaged a port facility for mooring ships, rendering it unusable, loading was suspended, and tankers were diverted. The consortium noted that there were no oil spills in the Black Sea.

The Caspian Pipeline Consortium is the largest route for transporting oil from the Caspian region to world markets. The pipeline, over 1,500 kilometers long, connects fields in Western Kazakhstan to the Novorossiysk sea terminal.

The consortium brings together the largest fuel and energy companies in Russia, the United States, Kazakhstan and several Western European countries. Among its members is the American company Chevron.
