At the talks between the US and Ukraine in Geneva on February 26, the parties focused on the economic bloc and long-term mechanisms for supporting Ukraine, said Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Rustem Umerov, quoted by RBC.

He said that the negotiators worked in two formats: one with the American side and the other with the US and Switzerland.

“Together with the government's economic team, in particular with Oleksiy Sobolev, and our American partners, we have developed a detailed document for the restoration of Ukraine“, Umerov wrote on Telegram.

He added that the next round is being prepared, with the parties working to “finalize the security parameters, economic solutions and agreed positions“. Umerov said the goal is for the next trilateral meeting with the US and Russia to be “as meaningful as possible“.

Umerov thanked the Swiss authorities for organizing the talks, as well as US President Donald Trump and his team for their active participation and consistent support for the process. He also noted that a conversation had been held with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky about the results of the meeting and the next steps.

The bilateral meeting with the US delegation took place on February 26 and lasted approximately four hours. In addition to Umerov, the Ukrainian delegation included David Arakhamia, head of the “Servant of the People“ faction in the Verkhovna Rada, Economy Minister Oleksiy Sobolev and his deputy Daria Marchak. The US side was represented by Special Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner.

Ahead of the talks, Umerov emphasized the humanitarian component and potential exchanges. "We are counting on concrete results from the return of our citizens," said the secretary of Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council, noting that negotiators will work on "practical solutions."

Kirill Dmitriev, the Russian president's special representative for investments and economic cooperation with foreign countries and head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, was also in Geneva on the same day, February 26. According to a RIA Novosti source, this was for negotiations with the American side "on its terms." The source specified that Dmitriev will meet with Witkoff and Kushner.

A new round of negotiations with Russia will probably be held in Abu Dhabi, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in an evening video address.

“We need to complete everything we have achieved in order to provide real security guarantees and prepare for a meeting at the leadership level. This format can decide a lot,“ he said.

Earlier, the Ukrainian leader said that the next round of trilateral talks between Russia, Ukraine and the United States could take place in early March.

The first two rounds of talks were held in Abu Dhabi – on January 23-24 and February 4-5.

The previous talks on Ukraine were held on February 17-18 in Geneva, with the participation of US representatives. The head of the Russian delegation, Vladimir Medinsky, an aide to the president, described the talks as complex but businesslike and announced plans to hold the next round “in the near future“.

The White House reported significant progress after the talks, while Zelensky considered the results insufficient and said that a new round of negotiations “would be right” to be held before the end of February.

This week, there have already been contacts between Kiev and Washington. Zelensky held a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump, the US leader's special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner.

The Ukrainian president said that he and Trump discussed preparations for the next meeting of the negotiating teams "in full force in a trilateral format in early March". "We hope that this will provide an opportunity to move to negotiations at the leadership level," Zelensky said. Axios reported that during the conversation, the Ukrainian president expressed hope for an end to the conflict with Russia in 2026.
