New footage, analyzed by a group of investigative journalists, shows a US Tomahawk cruise missile striking a military compound in southern Iran, just meters from the girls' school where a deadly explosion killed 165 people at the start of the Middle East war, the Associated Press reported, BTA reported.
The footage is further evidence that the US is responsible for the airstrike on the school, located near an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps military base in the southern city of Minab in Hormozgan province, the AP notes.
Experts, citing analysis of satellite images, told the AP that the school was hit after bombs were launched over the military base.
The new footage, which was first analyzed by the investigative group "Bellingcat", was filmed on the day of the attack but was published yesterday by the Iranian news agency "Mehr". Trevor Ball, an investigative journalist with "Bellingcat", was able to identify the munitions used in the attack as "Tomahawk" missiles, which only the United States possesses.
The US Central Command has acknowledged that "Tomahawk" missiles have been used in the war in Iran so far and has even released footage from the "Spruance" ship, which is part of The aircraft carrier strike group of the aircraft carrier "Abraham Lincoln", deployed in the region. The footage, dated February 28, shows the ship launching missiles of the same type.
"Bellingcat" said the new footage contradicted claims by US President Donald Trump, who blamed Iran for the deadly attack on the school.
The US Central Command and the Israeli army did not comment on the new footage.
When asked whether the US was responsible for the strike on the school, which killed mostly children, Trump said on Saturday that "in his opinion and based on the information provided to him, Iran is responsible for the attack". He added that the Iranian missiles "were quite inaccurate". US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth added at the time that the US was investigating the case.
New video footage shows a US Tomahawk missile hitting an IRGC facility in Minab, Iran, on Feb 28, showing for the first time that the US struck the area.
