A man with a knife attacked passengers on the Manhattan subway in the United States, injuring three people.

A police officer wounded the attacker, ABC and CBS reported, citing local police.

The incident occurred on the morning of April 11 on the subway. According to ABC, the man behaved restlessly on the train and then attacked passengers on the Grand Central Station platform.

The suspect refused police orders to drop the weapon, described as a machete, after which he was shot. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

CBS reports that the injured are an 84-year-old man, a 70-year-old woman and a 65-year-old man. All the injured were hospitalized in stable condition, police said.

Police said there was no evidence of a terrorist connection. The identity of the attacker has not yet been released.

Train traffic at the station was diverted in both directions, and the area around the turnstiles was cordoned off with yellow tape, preventing passengers from entering, The New York Times reported.
