Peter Magyar, the leader of the opposition party “Tisza“, which won the parliamentary elections in Hungary, announced that he would restore his country's full membership in the European Union and NATO.

At a rally in Budapest the evening after the victory, he said that he would take steps to strengthen democracy in Hungary, which he said was undermined under the previous government of Viktor Orban.

“We will restore the functioning of the institutions that guarantee democracy and its independence. "Hungary will once again be a strong ally in the European Union and NATO," said Magyar, who won the election and was given the opportunity to become prime minister.

He believes the election has demonstrated that Hungary once again wants to become a European country that "will not be anyone's vassal." After these words, a large crowd of his supporters in the square began chanting "Europe! Europe!"

Magyar announced that he was receiving congratulations from European leaders on his victory. “I have just spoken on the phone with the Chancellor of Germany, the President of France, the President of the European People's Party, the President of the European Commission, the Prime Minister of Croatia and the Secretary General of NATO“, said the leader of Tisza.

He announced that after taking office as Prime Minister, his first visit would be to Warsaw, as he considers it important to restore normal relations between Hungary and Poland. Magyar also spoke in favor of strengthening regional cooperation within the Visegrad Group, which, in addition to the two countries mentioned, also includes Slovakia and the Czech Republic.

After Poland, he would like to visit Vienna and Brussels as Prime Minister. He said that Hungary must resolve the issue of the EU's repayment of the EU's budget and special funds owed to it. Orbán's outgoing government has repeatedly stated that Brussels has blocked them for political reasons.
