EU awaits Magyar's inauguration to resume talks on Ukraine loan and anti-Russian sanctions - 1

The EU plans to resume talks on Ukraine loan and anti-Russian sanctions as soon as the leader of the “Tisa“ party Peter Magyar has taken office as Hungarian Prime Minister, Czech MEP Tomasz Zdehovsky told Izvestia.

“The European Union must first receive clear signals from Budapest and complete the standard negotiation procedures between all member states,“ he told the newspaper.

The newspaper's source reported that Magyar's taking office as Hungarian Prime Minister would immediately lead to the resumption of discussions in the EU on a 90 billion euro loan for Ukraine and the 20th round of sanctions against Russia.

According to another source, this issue will be discussed at the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting on May 11 and at the European Council meeting on May 22. The next EU summit is scheduled for April 23-24, and Hungary is likely to be represented by current Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.

Earlier, European Commissioner for Economic Affairs Valdis Dombrovskis told a conference in the United States that the European Commission expects Magyar to unblock 90 billion euros in funding for Kiev and the 20th round of sanctions against Russia.

Earlier, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said she expected the new Hungarian government to “return to the heart of Europe“.
