Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko said he was ready to meet with US President Donald Trump, but only after a major deal between the United States and Belarus is prepared, Reuters reported, BTA reported.
"We are ready for a deal, but it must be designed to reflect the interests of both the United States and Belarus," Lukashenko said in an interview with Russian television RT.
In March, Trump's envoy John Cole said the Belarusian leader could soon visit the United States - a visit that would mark a breakthrough for the long-time authoritarian leader, isolated for years over human rights abuses and his support for Putin in the war against Ukraine.
In his interview with RT, Lukashenko said Minsk had adjusted to Western sanctions and that a possible agreement with Washington should not be limited to their alleviation.
"We have many more issues to resolve and that is what a major agreement is all about. Once we have everything sorted out at a lower level, we will be ready to meet with Donald and sign an agreement," he added.
