Lithuania announced today that it will supply Ukraine with about 3,000 combat drones and that it will contribute to the rehabilitation of Ukrainian soldiers who are participating in the battles at the front, reported Agence France-Presse, quoted by BTA.
"In the near future, Lithuania will purchase for Ukraine about 3,000 FPV combat drones of Lithuanian production worth 2 million euros," Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonite told journalists during a joint press conference with her Ukrainian counterpart Denis Shmigal.< /p>
According to the Shimons, the drones could be delivered to Ukraine later this year.
Drones are widely used by both sides in the conflict, both on the front line and to attack large infrastructure facilities on the enemy's territory, according to AFP.
The Lithuanian Prime Minister added that her country will help establish three rehabilitation centers for Ukrainian servicemen - in the cities of Lviv, Dnipro and Zhytomyr.
Shimonet called on the European Union to start accession negotiations with Kiev "as soon as possible", saying that "the full security of Ukraine and at the same time of NATO can only be guaranteed through full membership of Ukraine in the pact".
Lithuania, a Baltic country with a population of 2.8 million people, has so far given Ukraine more than one billion euros in aid, more than half of which is in the military sphere. The latest example is the allocation of 35 million euros to the Czech initiative for the joint purchase of ammunition.
