Iran informed Turkey in advance about the planned operation against Israel , a Turkish diplomatic source told Reuters on Sunday, BTA reported.
The source added that the US had conveyed to Iran through Ankara that the operation should be "within certain limits”, the agency reported.
Earlier this week, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken spoke with Turkey's foreign minister to stress that escalation in the Middle East is not in anyone's interest.
Overnight, Iran fired hundreds of missiles and drones at Israel in response to an alleged Israeli strike in Syria two weeks ago that killed Iranian generals at the Iranian consulate building. It is Tehran's first direct military attack against Israel despite decades of hostility dating back to the country's Islamic Revolution in 1979. Israel said Iran fired more than 300 missiles and drones, 99 percent of which were intercepted.
