The Permanent Representative of Iran at the UN, Amir Sayed Iravani, told the emergency meeting of the Security Council that his country "will respond proportionately" of any US military operation against it, reported Reuters, quoted by BTA.
Iravani said Tehran's attack on Israel on the night of April 14, which prompted the emergency meeting of the UN Security Council, was "necessary and proportionate". He clarified that although Iran is not seeking an escalation of the conflict and has no intention of engaging in confrontation against the US, at the same time it confirms its right to self-defense.
"If the US starts military operations against Iran and its citizens and accordingly threatens our national security and interests, Iran will use its inherent right to respond proportionately,", Iravani said at the UN.
At the same time, Israel's permanent representative to the United Nations, Gilad Erdan, accused Iran of violating international law during the Security Council meeting and released a video on his tablet that showed Israeli forces intercepting an Iranian drone over the mosque " ;Al Aqsa" in Jerusalem, which is a holy place for Muslims, informs Reuters.
