The New York Times: The US has directly intervened in the war in Ukraine - 1

The United States has directly intervened in the decisions Ukraine makes in the war with the Russian aggressor, and in particular the law on the mobilization of new soldiers for the front.

According to The New York Times, the Americans have put pressure on Kiev in connection with the adoption of a new law on mobilization, UNIAN agency reported.

It is noted that while US officials pressured lawmakers in Washington to provide more military aid to Ukraine (eventually a decision was made to provide $60 billion in military aid), they also pressured the government in Kiev to allow the mobilization problems.

As Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs James O'Brien said, domestic mobilization efforts are as important to stabilizing the front and turning the tide of war as artillery.

"Ukraine needs to make sure it has the people it needs to fight," said a White House official.

The mobilization law has been a major topic in Kyiv for months. Already at the end of last year, the ZSU demanded the mobilization of half a million people in order to have a rotation at the front. Ukraine, as well as Russia, keep the number of victims, including the wounded, a state secret. According to Western sources, Russia has many more casualties, but it also has a much larger population. Ukraine also suffers losses, the number of which will remain unknown until the end of the war.
