Electricity has been restored to 95 percent in Ecuador after the major accident that left millions of people in the dark and affected the entire country, France Press reported, quoted from BTA, referring to the Ecuadorian Minister of Energy Roberto Lucué.
Earlier it was reported that because of the accident, people were stuck in elevators and had to be evacuated from the subway of the capital Quito.
Power was restored to 95 percent after about three hours.
According to the Minister of Energy, an accident in the Milagro Sorai transmission line caused a cascading failure of the entire national energy system.
There has been no investment in energy systems for years and the national emergency is a consequence of that, he added.
