Thousands of people gathered in several cities in France in protests against the rise of the far right after the strong presentation of party "National Assembly" in the first round of the parliamentary elections, reported DPA, quoted by BTA.
In Paris, demonstrators gathered on the Place de la République following a call by the "New Popular Front" coalition, dominated by the far-left "Rebellious France" party. There were also protests in Nantes, Dijon, Lille and Marseille.
French media reported clashes between demonstrators and police in Lyon. Barricades were erected there and police officers were pelted with bottles and bombs.
