The Latvian Ministry of Defense will send Ukraine a new batch of more than 2,500 drones worth 4 million euros, Ukrinform reported, as referred to the Latvian television, writes BTA.
As part of the so-called coalition to provide Ukraine with drones, the new batch of drones will be delivered to its armed forces in July. The first 300 drones will be delivered in the coming days.
Latvian Defense Minister Andris Spruds said the drones were manufactured by seven Latvian companies. For this year, the Latvian Ministry of Defense has allocated 20 million euros for the coalition's needs for the provision of drones, of which more than 10 million will go to the purchase of such aircraft from enterprises of the Latvian defense industry.
In the period from April to May this year, Latvia sent 135 drones and electronic warfare equipment worth nearly 1 million euros. Riga will continue to purchase Latvian-made military unmanned aerial vehicles until the end of the year, primarily for battlefield surveillance.
The international coalition to provide drones to Ukraine includes 14 countries. So far, they have set aside a total of over half a billion euros for supplying Kiev with similar equipment.
