The parliamentary faction of the far-right party “Alternative for Germany“ hailed as a “peaceful initiative” the controversial trip of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán to Moscow, reported DPA, quoted by BTA.

„Hungary sets an example and from the first day of its presidency in the Council of the EU, it talks to both direct sides of the conflict. Since the beginning of the war, this has been a key demand of the parliamentary group of the “Alternative for Germany”, said the spokesman of the “AlG“ faction. in the Bundestag for Foreign Affairs Matthias Moosdorf. He added that Orban is the only European leader who still maintains open channels of dialogue with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

„The parliamentary group of „AzG“ welcomes the fact that the possibility of an early ceasefire with a view to peace negotiations is now being prioritized at the highest European level. Thus, Orbán above all exposes the EU and its officials as warmongers who do not act in Europe's interest”, Moosdorf said.

Yesterday Orbán's meeting with Putin in Moscow, in which the Hungarian prime minister called for efforts to find a peaceful solution to the war in Ukraine, caused outrage in the EU, as well as in Kiev and Washington. Several European officials stressed that Orbán does not have an official EU mandate to negotiate with Russia.
