An Iranian naval destroyer has capsized, while being repaired in port near the Strait of Hormuz. Several people were injured in the incident, Iranian state media reported, quoted by the Associated Press, BTA reports.
The destroyer "Sahand" has lost balance due to water entering the tanks. Since it is located at a shallow depth, however, it is possible to bring it back into balance and stabilize, the IRNA news agency pointed out.
The agency also reported that the injured were taken to hospital, but did not provide further details.
The Sahand destroyer, named after a mountain in northern Iran, has been under construction for six years and was launched in the Persian Gulf in December 2018. The 1,300-ton vessel was armed with surface-to-surface and surface-to-air missiles , air defense batteries, and also with modern radars and anti-radar means.
AP recalls that in January 2018, the naval destroyer "Damavand" sank in the Caspian Sea after crashing into a breakwater.
