CIA: New power in Tehran is preparing mass protests in the US - 1

The White House accused Iran, that he is trying to take advantage of the Gaza-related protests in the US, reports "Reuters".

For Washington, such behavior is unacceptable.

Yesterday, the head of US national intelligence, Avril Haynes, warned that Tehran is trying to cause discord in American society.

She believes that individuals linked to the Iranian government have posed as activists online in an attempt to encourage protests about Gaza and even provided demonstrators with financial aid.

White House spokeswoman Karin Jean-Pierre said freedom of expression is vital to American democracy, but the government also has a duty to warn citizens about foreign influence operations.

"Americans across the political spectrum, acting in good faith, sought to express their own independent views on the conflict in Gaza. The freedom to express different views, when it is done in a peaceful manner, is essential to our democracy," she pointed out.

"At the same time, the U.S. government has a duty to warn Americans about outside malign influences. We will continue to expose attempts to undermine democracy in our society, just as we do today," Jean-Pierre was categorical.

A national intelligence official said the Iran warning showed how the countries tried to capitalize on controversial issues in the run-up to the election, both to embarrass the US and to "inflame social division.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, noted that Iran has a long-standing interest in exploiting political and social tensions in the US, including through social media.

"Specifically, we are monitoring Iranian individuals who are trying to escalate tensions in the Israel-Gaza conflict," he pointed out.
