The defense industry agreement that NATO leaders are due to negotiate tomorrow will help arms manufacturers in Europe and North America produce weapons in large quantities, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said today, quoted from Reuters, writes BTA.
„During the summit, Allies will sign a new defense industry agreement that will help make our industries in Europe and North America stronger, more innovative and capable of large-scale production,” he said during at a meeting of defense industry leaders on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Washington.
Stoltenberg also announced that on behalf of several member countries, the alliance placed an order for surface-to-air missiles “Stinger” worth nearly $700 million.
„Just today the NATO Support and Supply Agency signed a new multinational contract for the “Stinger“ worth nearly 700 million dollars“, he announced during the meeting.
The latest contract for missiles “Stinger“ was concluded in May 2022, when the US military paid $625 million to stock up on surface-to-air missiles to replace those sent to Ukraine.
The "Stinger" missiles are in high demand in Ukraine, where they have successfully stopped Russian airstrikes, as well as in neighboring European countries that fear they may have to fend off a possible attack by Russian forces.
