Israeli police officers shot today a Palestinian who stabbed their colleague in the occupied West Bank, the Associated Press reported, citing the Israeli police, quoted by BTA.
She said the police officer was slightly wounded in the attack and later identified the attacker as a 19-year-old Palestinian from the Gaza Strip. So far, it has not been established what he was doing on the West Bank.
The attack is part of a wave of violence that has risen in the West Bank since the outbreak of the Gaza war in October, AP notes. According to data from the Palestinian Ministry of Health, more than 500 Palestinians have died since the beginning of the conflict in the occupied territory, most of them in clashes with Israeli security forces. Others were killed in stone-throwing or anti-military protests. Some of the victims did not participate in clashes with Israeli forces, AP notes.
Since the beginning of the war, Palestinian attacks against Jews in the West Bank have also increased.
On October 7, fighters of the Palestinian group "Hamas" carried out attacks on towns and kibbutzim in southern Israel, killing about 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapping nearly 250 people.
Since then, Israeli forces have killed more than 38,400 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, according to the Hamas-controlled Ministry of Health, which have not been independently verified. The agency does not distinguish between civilian victims and combatants when counting the dead, the AP points out.
