US President Joe Biden has said questions about his age and fitness are "legitimate" before the election. He added that he is in better physical shape than his rival Donald Trump and his age does not prevent him from "literally ruling the world", as quoted by Focus.
As the head of state told BET News, all these concerns about his physical condition should be put aside. He will be able to show his "ability to compete".
"I understand why people talk about my age. Look, I'm only three years older than Trump. And I think I'm in slightly better physical shape than he is. But the thing is, it's perfectly reasonable for people to say, ``Wait, you're 81,'' Biden noted.
He added that age issues are "legitimate" in the race. But the American leader emphasized that he can demonstrate that age does not affect his "ability to compete, the ability to achieve results and the ability to literally rule the world".
Asked for clarification on whether he wants to be an interim transition candidate and, if he wins in November, evaluate his health and abilities year by year during a second term, Biden replied:
"From a practical point of view, yes, but there is no reason to think that will happen.
