Ukraine has attacked a Russian air base on the Crimean peninsula occupied by Moscow, Reuters reported, citing the army, BTA reports.
In recent months, Ukraine has stepped up attacks on Crimea and claims that the Russian Navy's Black Sea Fleet, headquartered in Sevastopol, has been forced to move its warships to a safer port elsewhere.
The base in Saki was attacked, but so far the damage caused in the attack is not known, specified in the message platform "Telegram". the Ukrainian General Staff.
"This is one of the operational bases that Russia uses to control the airspace and especially the Black Sea, as well as to carry out airstrikes against Ukraine,", he pointed out.
The statement did not say what weapon was used, but said the attack was carried out by Ukraine's missile forces along with other contingents. There is currently no comment from the Russian Ministry of Defense or local officials appointed by Moscow.
Nearly two and a half years after Russia's invasion, Ukraine says it has struck a number of Russian air defense systems deployed in Crimea in recent months.
On Tuesday, Ukraine said it had caused significant damage to Moscow's last cargo ferry that can carry wagons from Russia's Krasnodar region to Crimea, impeding Russian supply routes to the peninsula.
Kiev said the ferry was being used for military purposes. Ukraine's navy also said the strike forced Russia to withdraw all its warships from the Sea of Azov.
Ukraine claims to have destroyed or damaged 27 Russian warships in the Black Sea and off Crimea during the war. A spokesman for the Ukrainian navy said earlier this month that Russia's last patrol vessel had been spotted leaving the peninsula.
