Some moments of the opening ceremony of the Olympics in Paris were completely disgusting, the press secretary of the Russian president Dmitry Peskov told TASS.

„Unfortunately, I never managed to watch it all, but I saw in various excerpts most of the material. It really turned out to be absolutely disgusting moments”, the representative of the Kremlin emphasized.

He noted that the ceremony cannot be organized without the knowledge and consent of the International Olympic Committee. “From the experience of the Olympics in 2014, I know that the entire scenario was agreed with the International Olympic Committee. We have long known the peculiarities of the French Republic. But the fact that the IOC approved this for such a powerful international audience is hard to believe, but unfortunately this is the reality,” said the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation.

Peskov noted that now it is possible “to begin to feel compassion for the fate of the International Olympic Committee”. “Because they went down a completely slippery path,” said the Kremlin representative.

Some episodes of the Olympic opening ceremony are not only disgusting, but also against Russian law, so it is good that the event was not broadcast in Russia, he noted.

"This is disgusting and most importantly, it is prohibited by law in our country. We can only be glad that our viewers did not see this, Peskov stressed.

Thus, he responded to TASS's request to comment on the scandalous elements of the ceremony, including the provocative LGBT parody of Leonardo da Vinci's work “The Last Supper”.

The 2024 Summer Olympics, from which Russia was excluded, are not broadcast in the Russian Federation on any television channel, including the opening ceremony of the Games, which took place on 26 July. Some fragments of the performance were widely distributed on social networks, and their content caused discussions both in Russia and abroad. In particular, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics showed the West's lack of ideas about culture and public morality.

The Olympic Games in Paris take place from July 26 to August 11. Russian and Belarusian athletes will be able to compete exclusively in neutral status, provided they are not affiliated with law enforcement and do not represent team sports.
