Kiev sent more than 20 drones against Russia's Kursk region in several waves of attacks that began on Saturday evening and damaged an oil warehouse, Andrey Smirnov, acting governor of the region bordering Ukraine, said late this evening, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
At least 13 drones launched by Ukraine were destroyed by Russian air defense systems late last night, according to a statement by Smirnov on Telegram. Added to this are 19 drones destroyed over the region during the day.
Smirnov did not say how many drones Ukraine has launched in total.
Firefighters were still trying to put out a fire at an oil depot in the region caused by the Ukrainian drone attack on Saturday night, he added. According to him, the attacks caused minor damage to several residential buildings.
Russian officials rarely report the full extent of the damage caused by the Ukrainian attacks, Reuters notes.
Ukraine has systematically attacked Russia's transport, energy and military infrastructure to disrupt the Kremlin's economy and its ability to finance the war Russia launched by invading its smaller neighbor in 2022.
Kiev also says the drone attacks are in response to Russia's ongoing bombing of Ukraine.
The governor of the southwestern Russian region of Oryol region said tonight that a power plant in the region was damaged in a drone attack launched by Ukraine.
At least four drones were also destroyed over the Bryansk region bordering Ukraine, the governor of the region announced in Telegram.
