Israeli military prosecutors said they have charged a soldier with abusing Palestinian prisoners, reported DPA, quoted by BTA.

The soldier is accused of using "severe violence against the detainees he was entrusted with guarding," the Israeli army said in a statement. The alleged acts took place between February and June of this year.

The statement said the reservist assaulted prisoners while they were being transported. The detainees did not pose a danger, they were handcuffed and blindfolded.

The Israeli soldier is accused of beating the prisoners with a bat and a rifle, filming the action with his phone.

On Monday, the Israeli police detained nine soldiers from the military base "Sde Teiman" outside the desert city of Beersheba on charges of sexually assaulting a Palestinian prisoner who was hospitalized with serious sexual assault injuries.
