New heat wave covers Romania. A yellow heat code is in effect for Bucharest and five districts of the country (Dolj, Olt, Teleorman, Gyurghevo, Ilfov) for today and tomorrow, the National Meteorological Administration reports, as quoted by BTA.
It is expected to be the hottest in the southern part of Oltenia and in the southwestern and central part of Muntenia, where the temperature and humidity index will reach the critical threshold of 80 units. The maximum temperatures will be 35-37 degrees.
Meteorologists, however, do not rule out that in the following days until August 12, higher, record values of up to 45 degrees will be recorded and a red code for dangerous heat will be introduced. According to the forecasts, the weeks of August 12-19 and August 19-26 will also be very warm.
Last month was the second warmest July in the history of the planet, the European Union Climate Change Office Copernicus announced in the meantime.
