The campaign staff of US presidential candidate Donald Trump announced today that some of the internal its communications were hacked, and blamed Iran for the cyber attack, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
Trump's team did not provide direct evidence for their claims, but recalled the hostility between the previous US president and Tehran in the past.
Trump's campaign headquarters issued this statement after the news site "Politico" reported that it began receiving emails from an anonymous account containing internal Republican campaign documents.
"These documents were obtained illegally by foreign sources hostile to the United States, intent on interfering in the 2024 election and wreaking havoc on our democratic process," the text said.
Trump's team cited a message from yesterday to employees of "Microsoft" (Microsoft) that hackers linked to Iranian authorities tried in June to break into the profile of a high-ranking representative of a campaign staff in the United States. The American software giant did not reveal the identity of the person in question.
"The Iranians know that President Trump will end their reign of terror just as he did during his first four years in the White House,", the Republican's staff said.
As president of the United States in the period 2017-2021, Trump had tense relations with Iran, notes Reuters. In 2018, the Republican withdrew the United States from the international agreement on Iran's nuclear program, and two years later, the American armed forces killed in a drone attack in Iraq the top Iranian military Qassem Soleimani.
Last month, Trump survived an assassination attempt at a campaign rally.
There is no evidence that the gunman who was killed was linked to Iran. CNN, however, announced a few days later in July that the US had intelligence about an Iranian plot against Trump - accusations that Tehran strongly denied.
