French Socialists called on President Emmanuel Macron to hurry up with the appointment of a new prime minister after the end of the Olympic Games in Paris, reported DPA, quoted by BTA.
"He cannot continue to block the institutions and the country in this way,", said Socialist Party spokeswoman Chloe Riedel. The budget for next year will have to be finalized soon, she added.
Macron said he would not appoint a new head of government before the end of the Olympics, and the event's closing ceremony took place on Sunday.
According to Riedel, the president must admit that voters have punished his policies and will have to appoint a prime minister from the ranks of the "New People's Front" (the leftist coalition that won the election).
The spokeswoman of the caretaker government, Priska Teveneau, however, advocated cooperation between all political forces - from the socialists to the conservatives. She stated in an interview with "Sud" radio that there is no way to form a coalition government in a few days.
"The New People's Front" surprisingly won early parliamentary elections a month ago. The centrist coalition around Macron took second place, and the far-right party "National Assembly" Marine Le Pen was left with a third political force. Neither camp got an absolute majority.
