Deputy Chairman of Russia's Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said today that the Ukrainian invasion in Russia's Kursk region means that there will be no negotiations between Moscow and Kiev until Ukraine is completely defeated, Reuters reported, BTA reported.
„Stop with the empty talk about the wonderful peace with the mediators that no one appointed. "Now everyone understands everything, even if they don't say it out loud," Medvedev wrote on his profile on the Telegram social network. “ Until the complete defeat of the enemy, there will be no more negotiations!“, he added.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said days ago that the surprise Ukrainian offensive in Russia's Kursk region was aimed at creating a buffer zone there to prevent further Russian attacks across the border, the Associated Press reported.
In his statement, the Ukrainian president for the first time clearly defined the goals of the operation, which began on August 6. He previously announced that Ukraine's goals were to protect residents in neighboring Ukraine's Sumy region from constant Russian shelling.
"Now our main task in defensive operations is to reduce Russia's military potential as much as possible and to take maximum counteroffensive actions. This includes creating a buffer zone on the territory of the aggressor - with our operation in the Kursk region," Zelensky said. More than that, his office announced that with the invasion of the Kursk region, Ukraine hopes to make Russia negotiate, but under fair conditions, and not for the capitulation of Kiev.
