USA to abolish visas for Romanians from 2025

The authorities in the United States will announce on October 15th a decision to abolish visas for Romanian citizens, which will entered into force from next year, government sources told Digi 24 TV, BTA reported.

The TV station reminds that the Romanian government recently launched the campaign "Let's Qualify Romania", which aims to help include Romania in the "Visa Waiver" program for visa-free travel to the USA for up to 90 days.

In launching the campaign on July 18, Prime Minister Marcel Călăcu called on Romanians who hold any type of valid US visa or have had a visa that expired no more than four years ago to apply for a B1 or B2 visa renewal in order to to reduce the percentage of refused visas for the USA - a condition for including the country in the "Visa Waiver" program.

"There is a huge opportunity, valid only until September 30th. Therefore, I appeal to all Romanian citizens who have valid B1 or B2 visas, and those who have had such a visa, to submit an application for visa renewal. In this way, we will achieve a rejection rate of a maximum of 3 percent, and I am convinced that by mobilizing as many Romanians as possible in this campaign, next year we will travel to the USA without visas,", said Colaku at the time.
