Former Republican President Donald Trump, facing federal and state charges in an attempt to overturn his 2020 election loss to Democratic President Joe Biden, said in an interview with "Fox News" that he had the "absolute right" to interfere in these elections, reported Reuters, quoted by BTA.

"Who ever heard of you being indicted for meddling in a presidential election when you have every right to do it," Trump remarked in the interview broadcast on Sunday.

The federal indictment charges Trump with defrauding the United States by attempting to prevent Congress from certifying President Biden's victory and denying voters their right to a fair election.

Last month, a federal indictment was revised and charged him with illegally trying to overturn his loss in the 2020 election. US to certify 2020 election results after weeks of false claims by Trump that he won the election.

Trump faces similar state charges in Fulton County, Georgia, where he also faces a racketeering charge, commonly used against members of organized crime groups, which carries a sentence of up to 20 years in prison.
