The escalation of the war in Ukraine by Washington and the actions of the "collective West" led Russia to revise its nuclear doctrine. This was stated by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, quoted by "Reuters" and News.bg.

Russia recently announced that it is ready to make changes to the policy defining the circumstances of the use of nuclear weapons, but has not yet provided details of the changes.

The existing nuclear doctrine, set out in a 2020 decree by President Vladimir Putin, states that Russia can use nuclear weapons in the event of a nuclear attack by an enemy or a conventional attack that threatens the existence of the state.

Its revision is taking place "against the challenges and threats provoked by the countries of the so-called collective West", Peskov pointed out.

He added that Moscow is considering the possibility that Ukraine could use a US-supplied long-range weapon in its attacks deep inside Russian territory.

Ukraine has long urged its allies to allow it to strike with Western weapons against targets deep in enemy territory. These calls have become more urgent after Russia intensified its airstrikes against Ukrainian energy and other infrastructure, as well as residential blocks.

"It is obvious that the Ukrainians will do it. We take all this into account," Peskov noted.
