American President Joe Biden will meet with the British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on September 13, the White House announced today, quoted by Reuters, AFP and BTA.

The leaders will have an in-depth discussion on a range of global issues of mutual concern, including continued strong support for Ukraine in its defense against Russian aggression, achieving the release of hostages and an agreement to end the war in Gaza, protecting international shipping in the Red Sea from threats by Iran-backed Houthi rebels and promoting a free and open Indo-Pacific region, the White House said in a statement.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has promised to crack down on human trafficking gangs in the same way he used to deal with those involved in social unrest on the Island in the summer, BNR reported.

Keir Starmer held a summit attended by the National Crime Agency, the Border Force and senior ministers to discuss plans to stop small boats crossing the Channel. After the meeting, the prime minister said he was determined to use the same approach after the summer riots fueled by far-right activists, namely swift justice.

During the riots, Starmer also chaired meetings of the Cobra Crisis Committee. with the participation of police chiefs, ministers and civil servants. Quick arrests, charges and convictions and active police action appear to be acting as a deterrent, the prime minister said. That is why he believes the priority should be an immediate crackdown on gangs of traffickers who exploit vulnerable people.

Friday's meeting comes at the end of a week in which at least 12 people died after their boat sank off the northern French coast while trying to cross the English Channel. 1,276 people crossed the English Channel this week, bringing their total for the year to 22,328.

The data was used by the Conservatives in opposition to criticize Labor that, despite loud promises, it had no solution to migration problems and that scrapping the Rwanda deportation scheme was a mistake.

Meanwhile, it has become clear that the number of prisoners in Britain has reached a new record level and the British government is considering renting prison cells in Estonia to reduce overcrowding in places of deprivation of liberty, DPA reported, quoted by BTA .

According to official data, 88,521 people are behind bars in Great Britain today, which is 171 people more than the previous record set at the end of last week.

According to an analysis of the news agency "PA media" Britain's prison population has risen by 1,025 in the past four weeks and is now at its highest level since 2011, when weekly figures were first published.

The sharp increase is likely due to the number of Britons who have been arrested or given prison sentences following the recent unrest in parts of the UK.

The latest figures come just days before the government's temporary release scheme for prisoners comes into force on 10 September. This policy will not apply to those convicted of sex crimes, terrorism, domestic violence, or certain crimes of violence.
