Italy will open in October the first of two centers for migrants on the territory of Albania. This was announced by the Italian Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi, ANSA reported, quoted by BTA.
He explained that the delay was due to problems related to the terrain on which the center was to be built and which needed to be fortified. According to Piantedosi, such variations in the progress of work on the project are completely normal.
Regarding the risk of appeals from migrants detained in the centers in Albania, Piantedosi said that the Italian authorities are not afraid of these appeals because Italy applies the provisions of a European regulation that will come into force from 2026. Then there will be expedited border procedures and faster expulsions of migrants denied asylum. Piantedosi said that each migrant's complaint will be considered separately.
