The Ministry of Defense of the Netherlands made a disappointing forecast about the war in Ukraine – namely, that it will not end in 2025 either, UNIAN agency reported.
War Minister Ruben Brekelmans said that the war in Ukraine will not end this year or next year, “so we have to be realistic and not raise expectations”.
„I don't think the war will end this year, I don't think it will end next year either. Of course, we must provide Ukraine with as much military support as possible, but we must be realistic because the situation on the battlefield is very difficult. It means we have to do more, but we also shouldn't set our expectations too high,” he explained to LRT.
Breckelmans noted that it is necessary to take a long-term view and ensure that European citizens continue to want to support Ukraine “so that we do not create false expectations and people are not disappointed”.

He added that one should be optimistic but at the same time realistic. According to him, Russia is a really powerful opponent and can wage this war with such intensity for a very long time.
„If you look at the estimates of what the Russian military industry can produce and the number of people it can mobilize, these numbers are really huge. Russia is playing a numbers game and it is very difficult for Ukraine to defend against it,”, the Dutch Minister of Defense pointed out.
