Joe Biden: Stop this senseless war - 1

American President Joe Biden called on the warring parties in Sudan to end their bloody struggle for power, which has been going on for nearly a year and a half, DPA reported.

„For 17 long months, the Sudanese people have endured a senseless war that has created one of the world's worst humanitarian crises,” Biden said in a statement.

Biden highlighted kidnappings and sexual violence against women and girls, as well as hunger in the Darfur region, and called for an unfreezing of negotiations to end the conflict.

„I call on the belligerents responsible for the Sudanese suffering – The Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Force (RSF) – withdraw their forces, allow unhindered humanitarian supplies and return to negotiations to end this war,” Biden said.

The power struggle between the SJC of President Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the SBP of his former deputy Mohamed Hamdan Daglo in the third largest African country erupted in April 2023.

Since then, more than ten million people have fled their homes, and two million of them have fled to neighboring countries, the UN said. Humanitarian organizations have warned of starvation among the population.

Last week, the humanitarian organization "Doctors Without Borders" warned that thousands of children could soon die of malnutrition in the North Darfur region due to a blockade of an internal displacement site.

At the end of August, the last US attempt to negotiate a truce failed. With humanitarian aid worth $1.6 billion, Washington, by its own assessment, is “the world's largest provider of aid to the Sudanese people”.

„We call on all parties to this conflict to stop the violence and refrain from fueling it, for the sake of the future of Sudan and the Sudanese people,”, Biden stressed.
